CHAPTER 30

“Hell yeah!” I felt a grin settle on my face as tendrils of lightning connected the sky and the ground beneath our feet.

Explosions reverberated ahead of us, and the air was filled with debris and dirt from the constant lightning bolt strikes. I could feel the static in the air and there was a prickly sensation spreading across my entire body. More similar spells devastated the main Marakul group, but I didn’t pay them any heed. All I cared about was killing as many of these hairy wannabe orcs as possible.

Some of the Marauders caught flame and burned or exploded, while others disintegrated into piles of ash. Some held on to their kin, allowing the lightning to spread through their lines and kill even more of their kind.

I raised my hand again and released a [Fireball] that killed another Marakul, blowing his face up and using the floating, fire-imbued weapons to finish off a few others whose wounds had been bad enough to die from such simple attacks.

Arrows passed by me, killing off a few enemy troops. Tyrria was paying careful attention and picking off any of the wounded enemies instead of just shooting random targets. If only she was more powerful and had some area-of-effect abilities, we could utterly devastate hundreds of them.

“And another fireball to the face,” DK said almost disapprovingly. “You need to stop blowing peoples’ faces up. It’s what got you in this mess in the first place.”

“Shut up or I’ll throw you in there,” I shot back, pointing into the line of marching Marakul. They were now only about twenty steps away or so, while Tyrria and I were having trouble pulling away because of the deep mud.

I pulled my weapons back just as two hands grabbed my shoulders and yanked me up to my feet. A towering Golem lumbered past me and slammed into the enemy line. Malakith swung his sword in a horizontal arc, cutting through two of the Marauders, and the blade got stuck in a third. He stepped back, yanked the sword free, and swung it downwards, releasing a golden wave of flames that spread out in a fan-shaped area in front of him.

YOU HAVE GAINED: 25 Experience Points

Bram let go of me and joined Mal as another arrow flew past him and hit its target cleanly in the eye. It pierced the skull, and the back exploded, showering the Marakul behind it. As if the Collective wanted to rub some salt into his wound, a lightning bolt struck his corpse, killing several others who were pushing past him.

The clouds from my spell dissipated after a few more bolts, but they left a lot of dead enemies, and even more wounded. Many of them had been pulled into our instance now and couldn’t be taken from us by the other adventurers. That gave us all the time we needed to pluck them off one by one.
